Schools of Health & Wellness like to use a “Wheel of Health” to measure wellbeing in several facets of life. I have developed my own version called the Flourish Wisdom Wheel. In order to introduce myself to you, I have highlighted just four areas of my personal wisdom wheel. Consider what your top four areas would look like: Where am I doing well? Where would I like to focus on some improvement?

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
I spent 20 years in Engineering and Engineering Management mostly in the Aerospace Industry. Think project management and people management. A formative part of my development was a year with Stagen’s Integral Leadership Program. Stagen taught me about crucial time management skills, dealing with drama triangles in the workplace, and so much more. I even use this training in everyday conflict management.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
We all have hills and valleys in our lives. During a particularly challenging time, I took self-care to a whole new level. I was working at Cirrus Aircraft in Duluth, MN. On the side I earned my 500 hour teacher training in Soma Yoga, a therapeutic form of yoga that I’ve used to help myself and others deal with chronic pain and to find ease in mind & body.

PHYSICAL WELLNESS
You’ve all seen the middle age tire around the gut, right? Well, my physique was telling the tale of too many years sitting at a desk. After I started my coach training – it was a Lifestyle Medicine class – that I started walking for 30 minutes most every day. I cut the sugar and carbs. 6 months later, I was 10 lbs lighter. The walking and the diet have become part of my new lifestyle. It feels really good.

MIND-BODY WELLNESS
In 2018, I decided to move in a new career direction. Capitalizing on my strengths of Maximizer and Relator,* I quit my job at Cobalt boats and went back to school! Writing Masters level research papers after being out of school for 20 years? Ugh!! Enter Tai Chi Chih. This amazing form of moving meditation helps me balance my energy, makes me more mindful and less reactive. I practice it every day. *See StrengthsFinder
